The Academy was chartered by the New York State Board of Regents in 1966 and aims to increase education and knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in the Rome City School District.
The primary venue for this is the Rome Science Fair and Rome Junior Science Fair at Rome Free Academy and Staley Upper Elementary. All students are eligible, and need only register in order to enter the science fair. Scholarships and prizes are awarded to the best projects across categories.
The Academy also recognizes and honors residents of Rome who have contributed to the sciences and education of the sciences. Eligible candidates must have lived in Rome for a time of ten years.
Membership is yearly, with dues, and is open to all.
